The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
Anyone that has been touched by a family member, loved one or friend suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder understands the challenges this mental illness creates. It can be a daunting task to support and care for these loved ones, often without the tools to ensure success.
Our goal is to break this endless cycle of ups and downs in order to provide these individuals the resources to become productive members of society. Together we can lift up these people.
We have to do better. We cannot abandon or give up on people suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder. Our commitment at Hope is Hear is to listen to their pleas and find solutions.
Our Mission at Hope is Hear is to provide a nurturing environment for people suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder to live independently with ongoing counseling in order to put them on the path to becoming productive members of society. Hope is Hear starts with listening and seeking to understand before being understood.
Hope is Hear is the vision of Patrick John Keegan, a charismatic brother and friend who wanted to help other people just like him suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder. Patrick recognized that most families have been touched by someone suffering from this disorder in one way or another. Unfortunately, although well meaning, they are ill-equipped to respond to and support this unique mental illness. The majority of people suffering from Bi-Polar disorder turn to drugs and alcohol to self medicate in order to control the highs and lows of grappling with mood swings.
As Patrick put it , "Most people are good and sympathetic. They send people like me to rehabilitation facilities to become sober only to have us return to the same environment that triggers the same dependence on drugs or alcohol due to our mental illness." He went on to say, "Wouldn't it be great to establish facilities where people like me could go after treatment to receive ongoing counseling and support as well as a path towards living productive lives with a stable job?"
Unfortunately Patrick lost his addiction battle before his vision could become a reality. Hope is Hear became a reality in his memory so that no other family has to grieve for a loved one afflicted with this disorder.
